Create Tileset

The Create Tileset Tool generates a connectable Wang tileset from text descriptions of two terrains. Generated tilesets can be exported to Wang tileset, dual-grid 15-tileset and 3x3 tileset formats. Wang tilesets can be exported and used in Sprite Fusion.

The page has two tabs: Standard (16px and 32px tiles) and Pro (experimental, adds 64px).

Tileset Types

Top-Down

For top-down games. Describe the lower terrain (e.g., "water") and upper terrain (e.g., "sand") to create smooth transitions between them, with an optional transition description for the boundary band.

Sidescroller

For platformer games. Uses side view: describe the platform's interior material and what appears on its top surface (e.g., "dirt" with "grass" on top).

Options (Standard)

  • Tile size: 16×16 or 32×32.
  • Transition size: 0 = the terrains meet directly; higher = a wider transition band, often with a visible height difference.
  • Edge shape (top-down): square (stepped corners) or round (true circular arcs), with roundness and raggedness dials for the boundary's character.
  • Side wall thickness / placement (top-down): how thick the wall reads on the top rim and down the front face, and whether it sticks out past the terrain or is carved into it. Sidescroller instead has platform thickness.
  • Enhance descriptions with AI (default on): rewrites the terrain descriptions at the chosen detail and shading levels and picks matching base colours for generation. Your original prompts are kept in the tileset's metadata.
  • Live preview: the shape controls render the exact tile sheet the generation will produce (extended to a taller sheet for deep transitions).

Options (Pro)

Top-down only.

  • Tile size: 16, 32 or 64 (experimental).
  • Transition height: 0 = flat; higher = taller walls between terrains.
  • Advanced: boundary spread and raggedness.
